University of Dubuque

William Miller was a four-year letterwinner in football, basketball, and track from 1933-37. He was named the university's Most Outstanding Athlete two years in a row as a junior and senior. He captained both the basketball and track teams in 1937, leading the basketball squad in scoring and being named to the All-Iowa team. He also set an Iowa Conference outdoor track record in the broad jump that season.

Off the playing field he served as senior class president and was a member of the Thirteener Fraternity. Following graduation with a degree in mathematics and physical education, he went on to do graduate work at the University of Michigan and Iowa State. He coached basketball at Westside High School in Iowa from 1937-42 and completed over 25 years as an approved basketball official, receiving a lifetime membership to the Basketball Hall of Fame upon his retirement in 1966.

A navy veteran who reached the rank of commander, Miller retired as a contracting officer for the Defense Department in Ohio in 1972. He currently resides in Burton, Ohio.
