Wallace earned a degree in physical education-health from UD. During his college career, he played football from 1978 to 1981. He earned First Team All-Conference and served as a co-captain.

After graduation, Wallace taught and coached high school in Texas. He won three state championships in football and a state championship in track. Wallace also coached several individual track state champions. He was honored as Teacher of the Year and selected as a winner of a National Sportsmanship Award that was part of a TV program put on by ESPN and NBC. In 2017, Wallace received the Service to Community Award at the UD Alumni/ae Recognition Brunch and Awards Ceremony.

Wallace retired after 34 years of teaching and coaching. He and his wife, Sissy, reside in Texas City, Texas.
