The Spartans shared the Iowa Conference title with Upper Iowa which finished with a 4-0 record. UD outscored its opponents 98-45 and did not allow more than 13 points in any of the five IIAC games. There were no All-Iowa Conference teams picked in 1948, but the Spartans Keith Brown finished third in scoring with 26 points (three touchdowns and eight extra points) in league only games.
