Athletic Communications

Student Employment Opportunities
The University of Dubuque Athletic Communications office has employment opportunities for current UD students. If you are interested in being a part of the Athletic Communications, please contact Paul Misner (pmisner@dbq.edu) for more information. Students can assist the department in various roles such as: calling live statistics, typing in statistics live during home events, live streaming camera operator, play-by-play announcing for live stream, writing, helping out on game days with social media scores and updates.

Interviews
All media interviews must be arranged through the office of Athletic Communications. It's a violation of NCAA rules to contact a student-athlete directly. All coach and player interviews are to be conducted in the head coaches office unless a prior authorization has been given. Coaches, players and athletic department officials are not to be interviewed at any other locations.
Media members should refrain from requesting family contact information from student-athletes for interviews. Please work through the the Athletic Communications office for family related interview requests.

Media Credentials
Media sideline decorum rules require reporters and photographers to remain inside designated media zones, wear visible credentials at all times, and maintain strict professional neutrality. Media personnel must never cheer, heckle, coach, or-react to plays, and they must keep gear out of active play areas and walkways.
Individuals will need to display a government issued ID at credential distribution when picking up approved credential. Issued credentials are non-transferable and must always be worn in a visible manner. Freelance reporters or photographers will not be credentialed unless they are working under a specific assignment. Subject to limitations of space, credentials may be issued to working members of the media representing recognized outlets in the business of news gathering as their primary source of revenue.

No rooting: Refrain from cheering, booing, or displaying outward favoritism toward any team.
No officiating: Never yell at or debate calls with referees or game judges.
Respect privacy: Avoid recording or lingering near injured players, medical evaluations, or private team huddles.

Failure to follow rules within media area will revoke sideline pass and a possible ban from all future events.

To obtain a credential for media coverage, please fill out this media form. All photographers and videographers must be approved by UD before obtaining credentials. It's preferred to have a minimum of seven days prior to game coverage for requests. Limited credentials will be allotted for events to maintain sidelines integrity for coaches and their staff. Players, coaches and staff members have a reasonable expectation of privacy when they are inside any practice facility to communicate with each other in regard to strategy, tactics and team morale. UD may limit media access during practice times. In-practice live posting/streaming (social media or otherwise) and reporting is not allowed. Media must not report on or photograph injured players or players in non-contact jerseys. By applying for credentials, outlets and their representatives acknowledge and assume the risks which come from viewing practices and/or games, including being struck or injured by participants, flying objects such as balls and other sports equipment. They also must agree to not profit off any image, video, stream, any social media as that is in violation of the current student-athletes Name, Image, Likeness regulation in the NCAA.

Football Media areas see below. It is preferred to have media kneel for allowing fans to see the field.
