ALBION, Mich. - The 2022 NCAA Division III men's lacrosse championship field was announced Sunday night. First-round action begins Wednesday, May 11, with six contests. The University of Dubuque Spartans fresh off their 2022 Midwest Lacrosse Conference (MLC) championship and tournament championship will hit the road to face the Albion College Britons of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Assocation (MIAA )on Wednesday, May 11 in Albion, Mich. Albion advanced with an 8-5 win over Hope in the MIAA Tournament Championship, the Britons claimed the automatic bid from the league and earned the right to host a First Round game.

University of Dubuque (12-7 overall, 6-0 in MLC):
An heart-stopping overtime goal by Sam Todd lifted Dubuque over Lake Forest, 11-10, in Saturday's Midwest Lacrosse Conference Championship. The Spartans earned the conference's AQ, clinching a spot in the dance for the first time in school history. This is also a first for the State of Iowa to qualify a team in the NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championships in any division.

Three players on Spartans roster have over 40 points. UD is led by Giovanni Silva (56 points) and Ben Farraday (53 points). Gavin Hughes is the other prime threat, coming into Wednesday's game with 43 points.

Ryan Doyle 96 caused turnovers handily leads the NCAA and he will will look to add to his NCAA season record of caused turnovers in 2022. Starting goalkeeping has been Ryan Gartner who has started all 19 games for the Spartans. He enters the tournament with 195 saves after facing 545 shots.

Albion College (14-4 overall, 5-1 in MIAA) :
Jace Conley's 119 points is tied for the most in the NCAA, and leads a power Briton offense. Sophomore Ethan Rottell (74 points) and junior Sam Puzevic (69 points) are two more dynamic threats on the Albion attack. Albion can also turn to Gerald HaadsmaTimmy Salinas and Brock Yabs to help offensively.

Defensively, Tatar is joined by an extremely talented back line with Bear NelsonGage Thrall and Will Tessin. In goal, Jack Gogonis was unflappable in Saturday's win, stopping 14 shots and looking brilliant. Look for the match-up with Albion's Joey Tatar, he trails the Spartans Doyle in NCAA rankings for caused turnovers with the second most in the nation.

This is Albion's fifth-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament in school history and first since 2018. The Brits are 1-4 all-time in playoff appearances.
