Men's Lacrosse Snaps Losing Skid Against Beloit as Smith Scores Eight Goals

BELOIT, Wis. - The University of Dubuque men's lacrosse team snapped their losing skid on Thursday night at Beloit College with a dominant 17-8 win over the Buccaneers. Cambell Smith's eight goals scored tonight is the second highest in a single game in program history. 

Nate Richardson scored two unassisted goals in the first five minutes of the game to give the Spartans an early lead. Connor Lindauer, Nolan Dimitri and Cambell Smith also all found the back of the net in the first quarter as the Spartans led 5-1 through 15 minutes.

The Spartans continued their consecutive goal streak into the second quarter, building a 8-1 lead. Smith scored three goals in the second quarter as well as Tyler Johnson's first, along with Richardson's third of the game. The Spartans led 10-2 at the half.

Beloit made a run in the third quarter, outscoring the Spartans 6-2 in the quarter to get to within 12-8 heading into the final quarter. The Spartans eventually settled in after Beloit made a run and scored five goals in the fourth quarter and held Beloit to zero. 

Smith ended the game with eight goals and an assist for a total of nine points which is the most of any Spartans player this season. Richardson ended with four goals and an assist, while Johnson scored three goals. 

The Spartans won 15 faceoffs with John Lewis winning eight and Owen Lang had seven faceoff wins. Nolan Nagy played the first three quarters in goal and recorded six saves in the win. Ethan Branscom played the final 15 minutes and recorded two saves.

The Spartans will play their final regular season road game on Saturday, April 18 when they travel to face Illinois Institute of Technology. The game will be played at Stuart Field at 4:00 p.m.
