Box Score MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The University of Dubuque men's lacrosse team was playing on the road for the fourth straight game Saturday afternoon as they took on the Milwaukee School of Engineering Raiders in a non-conference match-up where the Raiders held their own against the Spartans to snap their four game winning streak by a final score of 12-7.
The first half was a constant back and forth battle as the Spartans got goals from
Tyler Phipps who managed to get the first goal of the game at the 12:09 mark of the first quarter.
Giovanni Silva found the back of the net to knot the game at 2-2 and
Ben Farraday evened the score at 3-3 with 7:19 remaining in the first. The Raiders would then tack on two more goals before the end of the first. The Spartans would score again shortly into the second quarter from
Zach Schmitt before the Raiders rallied off four straight goals to push their lead to 9-5 at the break. Goals ceased in the second half a bit and the Spartans couldn't gain enough offensive momentum to inch closer and ultimately would fall to the Raiders on the road.
Giovanni Silva and
Ben Farraday led the Spartans with two goals apiece.
Sam Todd produced a team high in assists as well with two.
Ryan Gartner had a season high 21 saves in the loss on 33 shots. The Spartans had 32 ground balls and were 19-28 on clears throughout the game.
The Spartans now move to 6-7 overall and still remain perfect in conference at 2-0.
