WAVERLY, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's cross country team competed at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional on Saturday morning, which was hosted by Wartburg College at the Max Cross Country Course. The Spartans finished 10th as a team with 285 team points.
Anthony Carney Jr. qualified for his second consecutive NCAA Championships after finishing 18th overall in a time of 24:52.8 for the 8k race. Carney Jr. improved from last season's Midwest Regional by five spots (23rd) and reduced his time by 16 seconds in the event. The NCAA Championships take the top seven at-large individuals and Carney was the seventh individual in the field before at-large teams are considered for qualification. Carney Jr. also merit all-region honors.Â
Trentyn Gilges (41st) and
Aiden Mohr (49th) each posted top 50 finishes with times of 25:46.2 and 26:04.7 respectively. Other Spartan finishers include
Jackson Croft (89th) who ran a time of 26:58.8,
Carter Richter (92nd) ran 27:00.0 even with losing his shoe 2.5 miles into the race.
Logan Karottu (103rd) ran a season-best time of 27:16.0 and
Evan Robertson (109th) finished with a time of 27:29.3.
There were a total of 238 runners who finished the 8k race at this year's Midwest Regional.Â
The official list of NCAA qualifiers will be announced tomorrow afternoon with the NCAA Division III Championships taking place next Saturday, November 22 at 11:00 a.m. from Spartanburg, S.C.Â
