SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Anthony Carney Jr. closed out his collegiate career on Saturday at the 2025 NCAA Cross Country Championships with an 82nd place finish among a field of 291 runners. Carney Jr.'s finish is the second highest finish in program history at the NCAA Championships.
Carney Jr. finished his final 8K race of his career with a time of 25:10.4, 19 seconds off the fastest time recorded at the NCAA Championships in program history. Carney Jr. improved 48 seconds from last year's championships and placed an incredible 147 spots higher from 229th a season ago to 82nd this year. He did all of this even with getting spiked in the foot just 400 meters into the race and was still able to work his way up in the field throughout the race.
Carney Jr. finished his collegiate career with the UD all-time 8K record (24:21.9) and the A-R-C Championships record he set on the same day this season. He also set the UD all-time record in the 5K in 2024. He was also a two-time all-region performer and was all-conference in back-to-back seasons with consecutive ninth place finishes at the A-R-C Championships.
