Box Score 2 ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The University of Dubuque softball team continued their season with a trip down to Missouri. The Spartans took on Webster University Gorlocks in a doubleheader this afternoon. The Spartans fell on the wrong side of the scoreboard as they lost 3-2 in the opener and then fell by a score of 7-3.
In the first game, the Spartans trailed 1-0 after the first inning of the play. The Spartans took the lead in the third as they platted two runs on two hits. Katilyn Powell drove in
Audrey Morris and
Amber Wisely on a double to right field. Webster evened the game at 2-2 scoring a run in the fifth. Both teams entered the 7th inning still knotted at 2-2 but a Gorlock run in the bottom of the inning defeated the Spartans 3-2.
The Spartans tallied six hits as Powell and
Grace Stevenson each had two hits.
Kayleen Sebo took the mound and did not give up any earned runs in 6 1/3 innings striking out two batters.Â
Game two of the afternoon the Spartans struck first in the opening frame with a two out RBI double from
Bailey Ford. Webster responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning as the Spartans trailed 2-1. The Spartans relied on some more two out hitting in the second inning as
Bella Allison lined a triple into right field scoring two runs retaking the lead 3-2. Webster answered with four runs in the third as the Spartans trailed 6-3. The Spartans were held scoreless for the remainder of the game as Webster went on to win 7-3.Â
Half of the Spartans hits came off the bat of Ford as she went 3-4 from the plate including a double while Allison recorded two hits as well.
Jaelyn Blakemore suffered the loss as pitched 2 1/3 innings allowing six runs while striking out three.
Paige Manning came in relief and tossed 3 2/3 innings. Manning held the Gorlocks in check as she did not allow any earned runs in the final frames.Â

The Spartans will play another doubleheader tomorrow in St. Louis, Mo. as they take on Fontbonne University. The first game is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m. at ABC Park.
