DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque softball team wrapped up their home schedule on Saturday on Senior Day for the six Spartans playing their final games on the UD Softball Field in front of one of the largest crowds of the season. The Spartans would lead through four innings in both games, but the league leading Wartburg College Knights (26-8 overall, 11-1 in A-R-C) would capture the sweep with 9-2 and 10-3 victories.
UD scored two runs off six hits and committed two errors in the opening contest as the Knights Scored nine runs off 10 hits and played errorless. Starting pitcher
Ashlyn Short led the offense with two doubles and an RBI. She pitched a complete game and struck out six Knights, allowed six earned runs after facing 36 batters and took the loss on the mound.
Lauren Jacobs finished with a double and
Jamie Motley had UD's lone triple of the game.
In the second game, the Spartans scored three runs off four hits and had a pair of errors. Wartburg grabbed 10 runs off 11 hits and made two errors. UD ended with four singles in the loss.
Kadence Ondrey was 1-2 with two RBI's and
Kayla Ponting was 1-3 with an RBI.
Megan Leick was 1-3 with a run scored and
Amber Wisely was 1-2 with a run scored.
Ciaran Rigby took the loss after 5.2 innings with four strikeouts, three walks and eight earned runs after facing 29 batters.
Miranda Saylor tossed the final 1.1 innings and allowed one earned run after facing six batters.Â
The Spartans (17-19 overall, 3-11 in A-R-C) travel to Pella, Iowa on Sunday, April 25 for a doubleheader against the Central College Dutch (22-10 overall, 5-7 in A-R-C) beginning at 1:00 p.m.
