CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's cross country team got their 2023 campaign off to a great start on Friday night as they scored 62 team points in rout to a runner-up finish at the Mount Mercy Corridor XC Clash among eight other teams.
The story of the night would come from freshman runner,
Dede Davis. Davis opened up her first collegiate race as the leading Spartan in the women's 5k race with a sixth place finish. She would average a 6:40.4 pace per mile on her way to a total time of 20:45.1. Finishing right behind Davis was
Kiana Vogel in 20:58.7. Another Spartan making her collegiate debut was
Alexia Pecora as she placed 14th in a time of 21:35.9. The final two runners to score points for the Spartans were
Kiley Chapman (18th) and
Ellec Armstead (21st). Six other runners ran for the Spartans on Friday, competing among 71 total runners and eight teams.
