Box Score 4 CLERMONT, Fla. - The University of Dubuque softball team is competing in the Sunshine State's The Spring Games over the Spartans spring break.
Saturday, Mar. 5
Game #1
UD-2, Elizabethtown College - 1
Both teams were strong in the pitcher's circle Saturday, but University of Dubuque Spartans defeated Elizabethtown College 2-1.
Kayla Breunig allowed just four hits to Elizabethtown College. Breunig earned the victory in the circle for University of Dubuque Spartans. The ace lasted seven innings, allowing four hits and one run while striking out two.
University of Dubuque Spartans socked one home run on the day, a
Lauren Brown homer in the fourth inning.
UD tallied seven hits on the day.  Rachel Trader and Brown all managed multiple hits for University of Dubuque Spartans. University of Dubuque Spartans was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Deanna Origer had the most chances in the field with five.

UD-11, Swarthmore-3 in five innings
University of Dubuque Spartans
Amanda Dubeau would collect the in on the mound after allowing two earned runs after facing 24 batters. The Spartans scored in all, but the opening inning. UD led 7-3 after the fourth inning and put the game away early after scoring four runs in the top of the fifth.
Dariann Diorio led the offense after going 3-3 at the plate and collecting three RBI's.
UD scored 11 runs in 15 hits and committed just one error.
Friday, Mar. 4
Game #1
UD-2, Plymouth State-1
Both teams were strong on the rubber Friday, but University of Dubuque Spartans defeated Plymouth State University 2-1.
Kayla Breunig allowed just three hits to Plymouth State University.
University of Dubuque Spartans got on the board in the second inning when Sam McCann induced
Alyanna Martinez to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored. Plymouth State University evened things up at one in the top of the third inning when Madison Harris singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run. University of Dubuque Spartans pulled away for good with one run in the fourth inning. Â In the fourth
Callie Dutton's sac fly scored one run for University of Dubuque Spartans.
Breunig got the win for University of Dubuque Spartans. The pitcher surrendered one run on three hits over seven innings, striking out two.

UD-6, Eastern University-4
University of Dubuque Spartans ran off with the lead late in the game in a 6-4 victory over Eastern University on Friday. Â The game was tied at four with University of Dubuque Spartans batting in the top of the eighth when
Bella Como singled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run.
University of Dubuque Spartans earned the victory despite allowing Eastern University to score three runs in the seventh inning.  Eastern University's big inning was driven by a single by Kacie Noonan and  by Tori Hook. Eastern University knotted the game up at four in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Madeleine Belluomini took the win for University of Dubuque Spartans. Belluomini surrendered four runs on eight hits over six innings, striking out one and walking zero. Â
Megan Wolff threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. University of Dubuque Spartans racked up 11 hits in the game. Â

Thursday, Mar. 3
Game #1
Mt. Union-11, UD-7
University of Dubuque Spartans lost the lead late in an 11-7 defeat to University of Mount Union on Thursday. Â The game was tied at seven with University of Mount Union batting in the bottom of the sixth when Alyssa Rose singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.
University of Dubuque Spartans collected seven hits and University of Mount Union had 11 in the high-scoring affair.Â
Kayla Breunig took the loss for UD. She surrendered 11 runs on 11 hits over six innings.
Rachel Trader led University of Dubuque Spartans with two hits in four at bats.
Game #2
UD-10, Rosemont-0 in 5 innings
Wolff was the winning pitcher for University of Dubuque Spartans. The hurler went five innings, allowing zero runs on three hits and striking out five. Begg took the loss for Rosemont 21-22 Ravens Varsity. Begg went two and two-thirds innings, allowing eight runs on nine hits, striking out one and walking one.
University of Dubuque Spartans racked up 11 hits in the game. Bloomer and Martinez each collected two hits to lead University of Dubuque Spartans.
Tuesday, Mar. 1
Game #1
UD-4, Saint Mary's University (MN)-2
UD jumped put first to grab the lead in the second inning when
Dariann Diorio doubled to right field, RBI;
Kayla Breunig scored. The Spartans added three runs in the fifth to lead 4-0. Saint Mary's would rally in the bottom of the seventh when they scored two runs on one hit and left two runners on base, but fell shy of the win by a 4-2 margin to UD.
Rachel Trader and
Lauren Brown would both finish wit two hits. Trader collected two RBI's when she doubled to right field in the fifth inning. Kayla Bruenig earned the win on the mound after allowing two earned runs after facing 30 batters. She fanned four SMU batters and improved to 2-0 this season.
Game #2
Calvin - 6, UD-4
Calvin would get the scoring started early in the first inning as they reached home plate off a passed ball by the Spartans. The Spartans would answer in a big way in the second inning starting with a
Deanna Origer double that would be followed by aÂ
Cayla Cavanagh double bringing in Origer to tie the game at 1-1. The very next Spartan batter,
Dariann Diorio would hit a double to bring in Cavanagh to give the Spartans a 2-1 lead.
Audrey Morris would come up to bat next and take one over the fence to cap off a four hit, four run inning to take a 4-1 lead. The Spartans would struggle to find any offensive rhythm the rest of the way managing only five hits after the second inning and Calvin managed to tack on six more runs to beat the Spartans 6-4.
Madeleine Belluomini took the loss after allowing five earned runs while striking out three.
Monday, Feb. 28
Game #1
University of Dubuque Spartans went 2-0 to begin their season on Monday at The Spring Games. UDÂ beat Concordia Moorhead 5-2 on Monday, UD won their second game by a score of 10-3 against Adrian.
Concordia Moorhead opened up scoring in the first inning, when Valerie Kolstad doubled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run.Â
Kayla Breunig pitched University of Dubuque Spartans to victory. The hurler allowed three hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out three. Vanessa Ramos took the loss for Concordia Moorhead. The righty surrendered five runs on seven hits over four and a third innings, striking out three.

Despite allowing three runs in the fourth inning, University of Dubuque Spartans defeated Adrian College 10-3 on Monday. Â Maggie Leveille, Lauren McCulligh, and Katie Connolly powered the big inning with RBIs.
