Box Score 2 MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa - The University of Dubuque #23-ranked softball team played their fourth and fifth games in three days in a busy week of play. UD scored nine runs in 11 hits while committing two errors on Tuesday and held the Iowa Wesleyan University Tigers scoreless in the opener. In game two, UD fell behind 0-1 before scoring twice in the fourth inning to take their first lead. The Spartans added a run at the top of the fifth and the Tigers added a run in the bottom. The score was 3-2 in favor of the Spartans and they would hold that lead for the final two innings as both teams remained scoreless. The Spartans scored three runs off seven hits and committed one error.
Cayla Cavanagh led the offense by going 3-4 in her at bats with an RBI, and she scored three runs. She would send the ball over the left field fence as leadoff in the second inning.
Emily Bloomer ended the opener going 2-3 at the plate and eight Spartans finished with a hit.
Nicolette Evans collected the seven inning victory allowing just five hits while fanning eight batters.
In game two, once again it was the host Tigers taking an early lead 1-0 after two innings. UD scored two in the top of the fourth helped by an error at shortstop.
Brooke Goodman started the fifth inning with a double to left field. She would score off an error by second base. The Tigers would score at the bottom of the fifth off a double to left field. UD will leave on base, three runners in the final two innings.
The duo of
Lauren Brown and
Morgan Turnmire would both finish game two by going 2-4 at the plate.
Kayla Breunig earned the win on the mound after tossing all seven innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out four batters.
Wednesday, April 14, the Spartans return to American Rivers Conference play when they travel across town for a doubleheader with Loras College beginning at 2 p.m.
