Box Score 2 FT. LAUDERDALE, Florida - The University of Dubuque men's basketball team is enjoying the warm temperatures in sunny Florida this weekend and early part of this week as they are participating in two games at the Cruzin Classic with game one being played yesterday afternoon and game two this afternoon.
Game 1 vs Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets
The Spartans would kick off with a contest against a good Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets team where they would ultimately fall 74-63. The Spartans would start the game struggling to hit the deep shots going 1-9 (11.1%) from beyond the 3-point arc. Baldwin Wallace on the other hand was lighting it up from beyond the arc as they would shoot 8-16 (50%) from 3-point range in the first half. Baldwin Wallace would lead 44-31 at the break. In the second half, the Spartans continued to struggle to find the bottom of the net from beyond the arc shooting 1-8 (12.5%). They would outscore Baldwin Wallace 32-30 in the second half, but not enough to overcome their early deficit and fall in the first game of the Cruzin Classic.
The Spartans scored 36 of their points in the paint and the bench contributed 26 points for the Spartans. The Spartans forced 23 turnovers in the loss.
Jaylin McCants and
Peter Ragen led the way for the Spartans with 15 and 13 points respectively. Levi Scheurmann added 12 points and nine boards for the game.
Game 2 vs #10 Roanoke College Maroons
The University of Dubuque men's basketball team had a daunting task on Monday afternoon as they played #10 Roanoke College. Unlike yesterday, the Spartans would shoot much better from 3-point range today as they would shoot 11-23 (47.8%) from outside and
Sam Kilburg leading the way with a season high 23 points to help lead the Spartans to the upset of #10 Roanoke College 75-67. The Spartans had control for most of the game and had a lead as big as 17 points with 15:08 left to go in the second half.
Peter Ragen would add 13 points and Levi Scheurmann would add 10. The Spartans were able to grab 30 rebounds and dish out 17 assists in the contest.
The Spartans will return back to Iowa and they will get a well deserved break for the holidays before returning to action when they travel to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to face the Coe College Kohawks on Wednesday, January 5 at 7:30 p.m.
