Men's Basketball Falls in A-R-C Championship Game, Finishes Season 18-10

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's basketball team fell 83-62 to the Loras College Duhawks in the A-R-C Championship game on Saturday night.

The Duhawks got out to an early 7-2 lead after a 5-0 run. The Spartans answered with an 8-0 run over three minutes that gave them their first lead of the game 10-7. The Spartans held the Duhawks without a field goal for over a seven-minute stretch before the Duhawks tied the game at 10-all. The Spartans hit back-to-back three pointers from Spencer Roeder and Jalen Scott on the next two Spartans' offensive possessions to go up 16-10.

The Spartans expanded their lead to eight at 26-18, but the Duhawks made a 9-1 run to tie the game at 27-all. Jacob Williams stopped their run with a layup at 3:02 to retake a two-point lead. The Spartans held a 33-31 lead at the half.

The Duhawks opened the second half with a 15-4 run that gave them a 46-37 lead three minutes into the half. The Spartans got as close as six points with 13:39 remaining in the game, but every time the Spartans scored the Duhawks had an answer on the opposite end of the floor to increase their lead to double digits. The Spartans couldn't cut into the Duhawks lead down the stretch, falling in the conference title game.

After leading by two at the half the Spartans were outscored 52-29 in the second half. The Spartans also struggled at the free throw line tonight going 13-24.

Williams led the Spartans in scoring with 14 points with Grady Thompson and Ethan Henderson each adding 13 points.

Hear from Robbie Sieverding
"Tough second half for us tonight but super proud of our group. We battled through injuries and adversity all year and our guys never stopped believing. We struggled from the foul line and three point line and dug to big of a hole tonight. We had some young guys get some valuable experience and they really improved throughout the year. I really enjoyed coaching our seniors and they will be missed."

The Spartans season comes to an end with a record of 18-10 overall. Conference postseason awards for men's basketball are set to come out next week.
