DUBUQUE, Iowa — On Monday, June 22, four members of the University of Dubuque women's volleyball team will travel to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to compete for USA D-3 Volleyball's Red Team as part of the World Outreach / Brazil Tour.
Seniors Taylor Bechen (Ankeny, Iowa / Ankeny Centennial HS) and Delainey Winkel (Ankeny, Iowa / Ankeny Centennial HS) will represent Team USA on the Red Team roster. They will be joined on the sidelines by two familiar faces from the University of Dubuque: head women's volleyball coach Karrah Davis and assistant coach David Beach, who will both serve as coaches for the Red Team during the competition in Brazil. "So excited for the opportunity to coach these amazing D3 student-athletes, stated Davis. Looking forward to competing against international competition and exploring a new country!"
The USA D-3 Volleyball Teams are invited NCAA Division III women's players from across the country. These teams are comprised of players recognized nationally, Regionally, and by their Conferences. The USA D-3 Red Team is made up of 10 players representing nine different colleges and universities and coming from six different home states.
The USA D-3 Volleyball Teams – One World Outreach / Brazil Tour will run from June 22 through July 1. The teams will begin with orientation in Orlando, Florida on June 22nd before the teams departs for Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The teams will play (Doubleheaders) in the cities & clubs they play in. On Wednesday and Thursday, the USA D-3 Volleyball Teams will play in Barra Tijuca at the Marina Barra Clube and the TC Tijuca club. In Rio the teams will be a part of an "International Challenge" on Saturday, June 27th. The USA teams will play 2 matches each in Rio de Janeiro. During the team's time in Rio the team will be conducting a youth clinic at the Marina Barra Clube, hosted by Ripper Volei as part of their "social outreach project".
In Brazil the team will experience educational, cultural, and social aspects of Brazilian life through city, school and sports club visits. In Rio de Janeiro the team will be staying on the famous Copacabana Beach (location for the 2016 Rio Olympic Beach Volleyball) and touring the Christ the Redeemer Statue and Sugar Loaf Mountain, two of the most recognizable landmarks in the world. The team will visit the popular international market in Ipanema and Ipanema Beach.
