Strong Start Puts Men’s Golf Fifth at IWU Invitational; Harwick Tied for Fourth at -3

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's golf team opened play at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational with a strong showing, sitting in fifth place after the first round against a highly competitive field that includes nine top-50 teams in NCAA Division III Men's Golf.

The Spartans put together a balanced team effort and remain firmly in contention, sitting just four strokes back of second place heading into the final day. The Spartans are ranked #31 coming into the tournament and are currently ahead of two teams that are ranked ahead of them.

Luke Harwick led the way for the Spartans with an impressive 3-under-par round and heads into the final day tied for fourth individually. Harwick was dialed in on the course, recording six of the team's 12 total birdies on the day.

Bob Ryan carded a 2-over-par round and is tied for 41st, while Pauly Bloomquist sits in 63rd after shooting 3-over par. John Dobbe and Tyson Malak rounded out the lineup, each posting 4-over-par rounds and sit tied for 82nd.

With a tight leaderboard, the Spartans will look to climb the standings in the final round of the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational tomorrow morning starting at 9:00 a.m.
