Hofrichter, Reisel Set to Compete in Inaugural National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The inaugural NCAA National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships are set to take place this weekend on Friday (March 6) and Saturday (March 7) at Xtream Arena in Coralville, Iowa. The University of Dubuque women's wrestling team qualified two wrestlers for this weekend as Shea Reisel will be competing at 117lbs, while Alex Hofrichter will be competing at 160lbs. 

Both Hofrichter and Reisel are no strangers to the highest stage of collegiate women's wrestling, as both have qualified to the national championships the last three years the Spartans program has existed. Both will begin competition on Friday, March 6 at 10:00 a.m. in the first round. 

Hofrichter (Antigo, Wis. / Antigo HS) is seeking her third straight All-American podium finish after finishing seventh in the 2025 NCWWC National Championships each of the last two seasons. The junior qualified for the NCAA's by finishing runner-up at 160lbs in the Region V regional two weeks ago in Indianola, Iowa. 

Reisel (Somonauk, Ill. / Somonauk HS) is looking for back-to-back All-American finishes to finish her career after placing eighth a season ago at the 2025 NCWWC National Championships. Reisel finished runner-up at 117lbs two weeks ago in the Region V regional in Indianola. The senior is a three-time qualifier after making it to the national championships in the first season of the program in the 2023-2024 season.

The NCAA National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships features NCAA programs from the Division I, II and III levels. The 180 participating student-athletes at the NCAA Championships have qualified through six NCAA Regional Qualifiers. The qualifying athletes represent 52 different NCAA institutions.
 
On January 17, 2025, the NCAA announced that women's wrestling had been approved as its 91st national championships. Therefore, this year's event is historic, as it will be the first NCAA National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships.
