DUBUQUE, Iowa - The American Rivers Conference announced the weekly conference athletes of the week on Monday. University of Dubuque women's soccer goalkeeper Samantha Jurgens and football quarterback Joey Rhomberg were both named conference athletes of the week in their respective sports.

Jurgens (Plainfield, Ill. / Plainfield North) earned her first career conference athlete of the week honor after helping the Spartans to a 2-0 record with wins over Coe and Buena Vista to open conference play. Jurgens finished the week with three saves on eight shots faced, while also recording a shutout against the Beavers. Against the Beavers, Jurgens scored a penalty kick goal in the first half of the game, scoring her first career goal as a goalkeeper.

Rhomberg (Mount Vernon, Iowa / Mount Vernon) helped lead the Spartans to a 44-22 win over Nebraska Wesleyan University. Rhomberg completed 36-of-51 pass attempts for 346 yards and five touchdowns. He also led the Spartans with 13 carries for 77 yards (5.9 avg.). This is Rhomberg's third career Football Athlete of the Week honor and the first of the 2026 season.
