WAVERLY, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's golf team secured a first-place finish on Sunday after a two-day total of 607 (301-306). UW-Stout and UD were all even after the two rounds, the tie-break was the score of the team's fifth golfer. UD's fifth place finisher was less than the UW-Stout golfer and UD earned another team victory for head coach Dustin Bierman. The top two teams distanced themselves from the rest of the field in the 21-team tournament and finished 14 strokes ahead.

"Proud of the fight our ladies showed today and to hang in there down the stretch is a good sign moving forward," added head coach Dustin Bierman. "UW-Stout came out early in the round and cut into our lead and we battled all day with them. We improved today because it wasn't easy at times, but to hang in there and win it with the 5th place team score is a good feeling. Big shout out to freshman Gracie Russell who broke the school record today for lowest round in program history with a 69." 

Gracie Russell led UD with rounds of 78-69 to finish in fourth place, climbing up the table on the second day by 10 places. Leah Balsbaugh was one stroke behind Russell for a seventh-place finish with rounds of 73-75. Drew Hoffer placed 11th with a score of 154 (72-82). Payton Morton wrapped up the second day with a final score of 161 (78-83) to secure 30th. Olivia Hines had a big second day, climbing 25 places to get 77th with rounds of (90-80).

The Spartans competed with four individuals: Kaycee Newman 36th (81-81-162). Jenna Albanese 51st (82-82-164),  Megan Stephan 100th (92-85-177), and Elizabeth Tucker 102nd (91-88-179). 

The Spartans continue their season at the very competitive field of golfers entered at the Illinois Wesleyan College Fall Classic in Bloomington, Ill. on Sept. 13-14 at Ironwood Golf Course
