ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The University of Dubuque track & field teams sent their Multi event athletes and a few throwers to compete at the first day of the Meet of Champions hosted by Augustana College. The women's team was led on the day by discus thrower Nai'lah Anders who finished second on the day in the discus along with her breaking the school record in the event.
On her second throw of the competition, Nai'lah Anders launched a throw of 50.01 meters to become the first University of Dubuque thrower to ever pass the 50 meter mark in school history. Her teammate Iter Redento also competed in the event for the finishing 19th. The Spartans were also represented by Ashley Glennon and Taryn Richey in the javelin. Glennon finished in fifth with a best throw of 36.94 meters, while Richey was right behind her throwing 34.21m for sixth. Victoria Zoltowska, Taylor Martin, and Olga Filipovic competed in first day of the heptathlon which included the first four of seven events: 100 meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, and 200 meter dash. Zoltowska sits third overall with 2392 points with her highest finish in the shot put with a third place finish with a leap of 9.69 meters. Taylor Martin is currently 11th in the heptathlon with 1950 points her best finish coming in sixth in the long jump. Olga Filipovic is currently 13th with 1851 with her highest finish at 11th in the high jump with 1.39m.
On the men's team were presented by Ryker Strong competing in his first decathlon, Braydin Preston (Javelin), and Jacob Edwards, Joem Boge, and Zach Sanford (Discus). Ryker Strong currently sits fifth in the decathlon standing with 3255 points after five events. He finished second in the decathlon high jump with a 1.82m mark for his highest finish of the day. In the throws, the Spartans were led by Braydin Preston in the javelin after he threw a mark of 51.89m to finish in third place on the evening. In the discus Jacob Edwards, Joe Boge, and Zach Sanford finished seventh, eighth, and ninth in the event. Edwards threw 46.64m, Boge a 46.61m, and Sanford a 46.19m.
