PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - The University of Dubuque men's track & field team opened the UW-Platteville Invitational with the five flights of the Hammer Throw and eight heats of the 5,000 Meter Run on Friday evening. The Spartans were led by three throwers who made the final of the Hammer Throw all placing within the top five.
Zach Steffensen won the event after launching a 57.55m throw on sixth and final throw of the competition. Prior to this throw, Steffensen was sitting in sixth before he leaped all the way the leader board to take the lead and win the event out of 67 throwers.
Jacob Edwards finished third on the night after throwing a best mark of 55.85 on his sixth attempt to move from seventh to third. Finally
Lucas Cummings finished in fifth place to finish his night with a best throw of 55.60m.
The distance team competed in the 5,000 Meter Run competition on Friday night as well. There were a total of 274 runner who ran and finished the event. The Spartans had four runner finish in the top half of the field. They were led by
Anthony Carney Jr. after he put up a time of 14:44.95 to finish 64th. Senior
Joey Wohlers finished 95th overall after posting a time of 14:54.23. Sophomore
Aiden Mohr finished 110th with a time of 14:57.07.
Trentyn Gilges finished 124th with a time of 15:00.06.
