CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) announced the Athletes of the Week for the week ending on 2/25/24. The University of Dubuque garnered their first wrestler of the week this year with Alonzo Smiley.

The Spartans wrestled in just one dual this past week inside the Stoltz Sports Center against Simpson College on senior night. A dominant performance by the Spartans finished with a 40-3 win in the last conference dual of the season. Smiley recorded the only tech fall of the dual in the first 1:35 of the match. Currently, the junior from Carol Stream, Ill. is nationally ranked #12 in the 165lbs weight class. 

The Spartans are gearing up for the the 2024 NCAA Lower Midwest Wrestling Regionals down at Cedar Rapids, Iowa hosted by the A-R-C on February 29-March 1.

This is the first Athlete of the Week honor of Smiley's career.
