McGovern Named to Iowa Wrestling Hall of Fame

CRESCO, Iowa - The Iowa Wrestling Hall of Fame, located in Cresco, IA, is proud to announce the 2026 inductees to be honored during the induction ceremony on Monday, April 13th. The University of Dubuque's Head Wrestling Coach, Jon McGovern will be a member of the 2026 class. The Class of 2026 is an accomplished and skilled group that includes State & NCAA Champions, revered Coaches, and an award-winning Journalist. The 55th Annual Awards Banquet and Induction Ceremony will begin with a 5:30 pm social hour, followed by a 6:30 banquet at the Heritage Events Center/McAllister's.

CLASS OF 2026:
Jon McGovern – Riceville High School, Central College, University of Dubuque – 3-time top three place-winner and 1988 State Champion, 2-time NCAA D-III Champion, 3-time All-American, 1992 Outstanding Wrestler NCAA D-III, & Head Coach at the University of Dubuque since 2002.

Matt McDonough – Linn-Mar High School (Marion), University of Iowa – 3-time State Champion, 3-time NCAA Finalist, 2-time NCAA Champion (2010 & 2012) & Bronze medalist at the 2014 University World Championships.

Dan Glenn – Fairfield High School, University of Iowa – 3-time State Place-winner, 3-time NCAA All-American, 1980 NCAA Runner-up, 3-time Big Ten Champion, 2-time Junior National Champion.

Phil Henning – Decorah High School, University of Iowa, Marshalltown – State Champion, 1970 NCAA Runner-up, Big 10 Champion, 34-year Head Coach at Marshalltown & Belle Plain, & 16-year Official.

Mike Finn – Waterloo Columbus High School, University of Iowa – 47-year Journalist, 22-year Editor of WIN (Wrestling Insider Newsmagazine)

Banquet tickets are available at the Cresco Area Chamber of Commerce (563.547.3434). Tickets are $40 and advance registration is requested.
 
The Iowa Wrestling Hall of Fame's sole purpose is the promotion of amateur wrestling.  With a rich history of honoring native Iowans at the annual awards banquet and induction ceremony, the inaugural banquet was held in 1970.  Following the 55th annual awards induction ceremony, the number of inductees will include 157 outstanding individuals signifying their contributions to amateur wrestling.  The Iowa Wrestling Hall of Fame is located in the Cresco Welcome Center at the intersection of Highway 9 and Elm Street and is open 9-5 M-F or by appointment.  For more info visit www.iowawrestlinghalloffame.com or Iowa Wrestling Hall of Fame on Facebook.
