DUBUQUE, Iowa - The NCAA Regional VI concluded today as University of Dubuque men's wrestlers Zane Pannell (184lbs) and Colton Weiler (157lbs) qualified for the NCAA Division III Men's Wrestling Championships by winning their third place matches in their respective weight classes. The Spartans placed seventh overall with 89 points. 

The final day of the NCAA Regional VI on Saturday had the University of Dubuque men's wrestling team had six wrestlers remaining for chances to advance in two weeks to Cedar Rapids for the NCAA Championships. 

At 149lbs, Ashton Hayhurst lost the championship semifinal match up by a 4-1 decision, but then proceeded to win his consolation semifinal match up with a fall in 1:59. Hayhurst would lose a 9-8 decision in the third place match to finish in fourth place in Regional VI at 149lbs.

At 157lbs, Colton Weiler opened up his day with a tech fall 4:38 into the match. He would then upset the third seed in the consolation semifinals 7-2 to advance to the third place match. Weiler would win a close decision 2-1 in tiebreakers to advance to the NCAA Championships in just his first season in collegiate wrestling.

At 165lbs, Kale Roth would win his first match today by a 8-3 decision, before falling to the three seed by a 4-1 decision in the consolation semifinals. Roth would wrestle for the fifth place match where he picked up a major decision 12-4 to finish fifth in the region. 

At 174lbs, Abraham Galicia lost the championship semifinal match to the top seed to open up the second day of competition. Galicia would then upset the fourth seeded wrestler in the weight class by a 4-1 decision in his second match of the day. Galicia wrestled in the third place match where he would fall 2-1 in a tight battle in sudden victory to finish fourth in the region at 174lbs. 

At 184lbs, Zane Pannell lost his opening match by a 4-2 decision in the championship semifinals, but rebounded by rallying off back-to-back decision wins of 9-2 and then 7-2 in the third place match to qualify for the NCAA Championships for the second consecutive year at 184lbs. 

At 285lbs, Justin Matson lost his opening match on the consolation side of the bracket, but then went on to win the seventh place match with a fall in 4:08. 

Both Weiler and Pannell will both now prepare for the NCAA Division III Men's Wrestling Championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on March 13 & 14 at the Alliant Energy Powerhouse.
