TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - After becoming just the third University of Dubuque men's cross country student-athlete to make the NCAA Cross Country Championships as an individual,
Anthony Carney Jr. ran his first ever race at the NCAA Championships and came away with a 228th place finish among the best runners in Division III on Saturday at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course.
Among a strong field of 294 runners, Carney Jr. finished 228th in a time of 25:58.3. Throughout the 8K race, Carney Jr. was at a consistent pace, getting as high as 207th place before falling into the 220's in the later stages of the race. Carney Jr. finished 1:56.7 behind the first place runner.
Carney Jr. ends his junior season leaping into the top five all-time in program history in the 8K race at the conference championships back in early November.
