ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The University of Dubuque men's cross country team had their highest ever team finish in program history on Saturday at the NCAA Midwest Regional at Saukie Golf Course with a seventh place finish.
Anthony Carney Jr. earned Midwest All-Region honors after finishing 23rd in the 8k race.
Carney Jr. ran just over 25 minutes at 25:08.2 to clinch a top 25 finish and potentially position himself for an individual at-large spot in the NCAA Cross Country Championships next weekend. Carney jr. tied Tyler Cernohous (23rd - 2021) for the best individual finish since Alec Bass was sixth in 2018. He is also just the fifth individual to earn All-Region honors at UD.
Joey Wohlers was the second Spartan to cross the finish line with a 42nd place finish and a time of 25:36.6. With his time, Wohlers moves into the program's top ten all time list in the 8k.
Aiden Mohr and
Trentyn Gilges posted a 51st and 52nd place finishes respectively, with both just short of breaking their personal bests.
Calvin Richey ran 26:04.4 to finish 58th, while
Andrew Hutchinson ran 26:20.3 to finish 65th.
John Innamorato rounded out the field for the Spartans in 129th with a time of 27:24.5
Carney Jr. will have to wait and see until tomorrow when the selections come out to see if he made the field for the 2024 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships.
