DUBUQUE, Iowa - Anthony Carney Jr. qualified for the 2024 NCAA Division III Men's Cross Country Championships, the NCAA announced on Sunday. Carney Jr. is the first men's cross country student-athlete to qualify for the NCAA Championships since Tyler Cernohous made it back in 2021.
After an All-Region performance on Saturday at the Midwest Regional, Carney Jr. was one of 70 individuals named as at-large qualifiers for the NCAA Championships. There was three American Rivers Conference runners from Region IX (Midwest) to make the championship field.
Carney Jr. will be representing the University of Dubuque for just the third time in program history as a qualifying individual. The Spartans had two teams make it back in the 1970's.
The best finish for any individual in program history was Alec Bass in 2016, finishing 30th in a time of 24:51.7.
The men's national championship race will take place at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course in Terre Haute, Ind. on Saturday, November 23 at 12:00 p.m. (ET) / 11:00 a.m. (CT).
