KOHLER, Wis. - The University of Dubuque men's golf team competed at the Whistling Straits 2022 College Championship on the Par 72, (6,753 yard course), home to major championships and the 43rd Ryder Cup. The Straits is defined by the open, rugged and windswept terrain, sculpted along two miles of Lake Michigan shoreline.

The Spartans were one of 15 teams competing among 80 competitors battling one of the toughest courses in the upper Midwest designed by Pete Dye.UD finished round one with a score of 345 and were led in scoring by Matt McQuillen who finished with a score of 84 to tie for 13th overall. Brad Buechel tied for 19th with a round of 85, Isaac Meyer was tied for 29th with an 87, Alex Staver tied for 40th with an 89, and Colin Schmit tied for 60th with an 94.

UD led the field with the most birdies and finished the tournament with 11 with their nearest competitor ending with seven. The Spartans ranked fifth overall in Par 4's with an average of 4.98 for the round.
