BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The No. 24 University of Dubuque women's volleyball team opened the Illinois Wesleyan Classic on Friday with a 3-1 victory over No. 17 Hope College (25-15, 25-14, 22-25, 25-18) before closing the night in a five-set battle against Hendrix college (23-25, 25-16, 20-25, 25-22, 14-16). The Spartans move to 2-1 on the season.
The Spartans came out strong against Hope, taking the first two sets before the Flying Dutch answered in the third. UD responded in the fourth set, hitting .278 with 14 kills to close out the 3-1 victory over Hope. Caitlin Jensen and Chloe Reiser led the offense with 12 kills each, while Delainey Winkel added 11 kills and 15 digs. Taylor Bechen led the defense with 24 digs, and Alexis Kammerer added 38 assists and 12 digs.
UD closed out the night in a competitive five-set battle against Hendrix. Winkel led the offense with an outstanding performance, with 26 kills on a .300 hitting percentage and 12 digs. Reiser finished with 17 kills and 16 digs, while Megan Cooley added 16 kills. Kammerer finished with 60 assists, while Bechen led the defense with 34 digs.

The No. 24 Spartans (2-1) return to action Saturday, September 5th, for the final day of the Illinois Wesleyan Classic. UD will face Monmouth at 10:30 a.m before taking on the No. 8 Illinois Wesleyan University at 1:00 p.m.
