DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's lacrosse team returned to Oyen Field Wednesday night after a two-game road trip, hosting the Edgewood University Eagles. The Spartans would fall to the Eagles 14-10 after giving up nine goals in the first half of the game.
The Eagles scored the first rwo goals of the game before
Cambell Smith scored his first of the night off a
Nate Richardson assist. The Eagles scored four more in the first quarter to lead 6-1 after 15 minutes of play.Â
With the Spartans trailing by seven goals in the second quarter,
Peter Schiess scored with 4:23 left until the half as Richardson recorded his second assist of the game. The Eagles added another goal late to go into the half up by seven goals.Â
The Spartans shut down the Eagles in the third quarter as the Spartans got all three goals of the quarter from Smith, which increase his total goals scored to four for the game. The Spartans were within 9-5 heading into the final quarter.Â
A total of 10 goals were scored in the final 15 minutes as both teams scored five apiece. The Spartans scored all five of their fourth quarter goals in the final five minutes as
Tyler Johnson scored two unassisted goals, while Richardson scored two man-up goals and assisted on Smith's fifth goal of the game in the closing seconds.Â
Both Smith and Richardson led the Spartans with five points each on Wednesday.Â
The Spartans did well in the faceoff circle, winning 21-26 faceoffs as
John Lewis was 13-16 and
Owen Lang was 8-10.
Nolan Nagy had 14 saves in net tonight for the Spartans on 28 shots faced.Â
