ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The University of Dubuque men's and women's track teams began the opening day of the Meet of Champions, competing in the decathlon/heptathlon and a couple of throwing events.
Leading off the top of the list for the women's side is Anna Bartels in the heptathlon, sitting in third place after the first four events with a score of 2267. Bartels took first in the 200 meters with a time of 26.68 to score 739 points.
In the javelin throw, Ashley Glennon took third place with a mark of 39.14 meters. Ashdyn Padelford had the top throw for the Spartans in the discus, with a 41.74-meter mark, placing seventh.
On the men's side, Lucas Cummings got close to his personal best with a hammer throw of 59.61 meters to take second place. Cummings' mark improves upon his season best and raises him to sixth in Division III this season in the hammer throw.

The Spartans will finish their decathlon/heptathlon events and will begin the track events while wrapping up the remaining field events at the Meet of Champions. The first events are scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. April 18.
