PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - The University of Dubuque men's and women's track teams competed in the 5000 meters and hammer throw events on day one of the Platteville Invitational.
On the men's side, multiple runners competed int he 5000 meters. Anthony Carney Jr. was the Spartans' top performer in a field of over 300 competitors. Carney set a personal best time of 14:34.08, beating his previous time by 10 seconds to finish 40th.
In the men's hammer throw, Lucas Cummings finished runner-up with his best throw coming on his final attempt; he took second with a throw of 57.87 meters. Joe Boge and Landon Mickley finished just outside of the top 10 with an 11th and 12th place finish, throwing for 49.38 meters and 49.20 meters, respectively.
On the women's side, the Breen Duffy finished fifth in the hammer throw with a mark of 50.60 meters. Chloe Reiser finished 11th with a throw of 47.42 meters on her second attempt.

The Spartans will compete in the remaining track and field events at the Platteville Invitational on Saturday, April 11. The meet is in Platteville, Wis., at the UW-Platteville Track and Field Complex.
