DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's lacrosse team was back at Oyen Field on Wednesday night, hosting NACC opponent Benedictine University. The Eagles got out to an early lead on the Spartans and maintained throughout as the Spartans fell 14-7 for their first conference loss of the season.
The Spartans fell behind 4-0 through the opening 13 minutes, but the Spartans were able to cut the deficit in half with two unassisted goals from
Chris Wilson and
Tyler Johnson in just 35 seconds.
In the second quarter,
Peter Schiess scored all three goals for the Spartans and was assisted by
John Davis and
Logan Ehle on two of the goals. The other goal was an unassisted man-up goal by Schiess.
After trailing by 8-5 at the half, the Eagles increased their lead by three goals in the third quarter and held a six-goal advantage through 45 minutes. After the Eagles held their largest lead of the game 14-6,
Nolan Dimitri scored an unassisted goal in the final minutes of the game.
The Spartans and Eagles were deadlocked on shots on goal with 20 each. In the faceoff circle, the Spartans won 15-25 faceoffs as
John Lewis was 10-19 to lead the Spartans.
Nolan Nagy recorded six saves in the loss.
The Spartans are now 4-4 this season and 2-1 in NACC play.
