Men's Basketball's Win Streak Snapped at Home Against Central

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's basketball team had their four-game winning streak snapped on Saturday after a 79-73 home loss to the Central College Dutch. Nick Kennedy had a career-high 13 points in the loss.

The Spartans got off to a great start tonight as Nick Kennedy would bury a pair of triples in the first three Spartans possessions and Jacob Williams and Josh Senica each hit a three-pointer in the first three minutes of the game to give the Spartans a 14-2 edge.

The Spartans would lead much of the first half, but Central came back and tied the game at 35-all with 3:46 left in the half. Back-to-back buckets by the Spartans got them back up by five with three minutes left, but would fail to score from there as Central took a 42-40 lead at the half.

Central led for the entirety of the second half and built their lead to as many as 11 before the Spartans went on a 7-0, highlighted by a pair of threes from Jalen Scott. The lead was then cut to one with under four minutes to go after back-to-back layups by Williams. With the Spartans trailing 74-71 with just over a minute left, they were in need of one stop and Central would hit an extremely tough game-sealing three-pointer with 22 seconds left.

Along with Kennedy's career-high 13 points, Williams had a team-high 14 points and 12 rebounds. Senica, alongside Dylan Hibicke had 10 each. Grady Thompson and Ethan Henderson each added eight points, while Scott finished with six points, six assists, and seven rebounds.

Hear from Robbie Sieverding
"We got off to a great start but really struggled throughout the game to get in any rhythm offensively. I felt like we got some good looks and also got to the foul line, but just couldn't convert. We have a big stretch of games coming up and hopefully we can continue to improve."

The Spartans drop to 14-7 overall and 7-5 in conference play.
