DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque men's basketball team evened the season series with the Loras College Duhawks on the road Wednesday night with a 90-74 victory. The Spartans had four players score in double figures, led by
Jacob Williams' 23 points.
The Spartans started off the game scoring on their first 11 trips down the floor and were able to build a 26-14 lead through the first seven and a half minutes. The Spartans shot a blistering 76.9% from the field during that stretch, while both
Grady Thompson and
Jalen Scott made a pair of three-pointers each.
The Duhawks got back to within five, but the Spartans were able to respond as
Joey Coppola IV hit two three-pointers to extend the lead back to 12 with 7:23 remaining in the half. The Spartans held the Duhawks without a field goal for the final 7:05 of the half and were able to extend their lead to 51-33 at the half.
The Spartans are averaging seven made three-pointers a game this season and in the first 20 minutes tonight the Spartans were able to knock down seven.
The Duhawks trimmed into the Spartans' lead to start the second half, but an ensuing 10-0 run by the Spartans increased the lead back to 23 with 14:23 left in the game. The Spartans would control the remainder of the game, finishing the final 14:41 with a comfortable lead.
The Spartans had four score in double figures tonight with sophomore forward
Jacob Williams leading the way with his seventh 20+ point game, finishing with 23 points on 9-14 shooting.
Grady Thompson finished with 19 points on an efficient 8-12 from the floor.
Ethan Henderson added 12 points and had a team-high eight rebounds, while
Jalen Scott scored 11 points and dished out five assists.
Collectively as a team the Spartans shot 50.8% from the floor and out rebounded the Duhawks 41-28. The Spartans led by as many as 27 tonight.

"Super proud of our team tonight. Our guys executed and played a very solid forty minutes on the road. Joey and Ethan were great off the bench and Grady and Jake got us going as well. We were able to knock down some shots, which always helps."
The Spartans would get the better of the Duhawks tonight on the road to split the season series and improve to 12-6 overall and 5-4 in conference play.
