Men's Basketball Gets Third A-R-C Win in a Row With Road Victory Over Beavers

STORM LAKE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's basketball team has now won three American Rivers Conference games in a row after an 84-71 win on the road over the Buena Vista University Beavers on Saturday night.

The Beavers made a three-pointer on the opening possession of the game, but the Spartans answered with a 22-5 run to go up by 14 points through 8:09 of the first half. With the Spartans still holding a double digit lead (32-19) with 7:34 left in the first half, the Beavers would end the half on a 20-8 run that cut the Spartans lead to just a single point at 40-39.

In the early stages of the second half, the Spartans would maintain a single digit lead throughout the first 8:26 of the half. An ensuing 10-0 run by the Spartans shaped the remainder of the game as the Spartans expanded their lead to 17 points. The Spartans had a double digit lead the final 11:34 of the game.

The Spartans got excellent play out of a trio of Spartans. Grady Thompson had a game-high 25 points on 8-14 from the field and also grabbed eight rebounds. Jacob Williams finished his night with 17 points and a team-high nine rebounds. Jalen Scott had his third double double of the season, finishing with 14 points and a season-high 11 assists. Scott also went 4-8 from beyond the arc.

The Spartans were dominant in the paint with 52 paint points compared to only 24 for the Beavers. The points off turnovers and fast break points also favored the Spartans tonight on the road.

Hear from Robbie Sieverding
"Guys continue to improve and have really played well the past few games. Grady and Jake both had strong nights on the offensive end for us. Jalen Scott ended with 11 assists to 0 turnovers and made some really nice plays for us. It was great to see us plus ten on the glass and we really took care of the basketball with just six turnovers."

The Spartans have won three games in a row and are now 13-6 overall and 6-4 in conference play.
