RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The University of Dubuque women's soccer team earned its first win of the season against Concordia Univeristy-Chicago. It was all Spartans in a dominate 4-0 win over the Cougars.
The first half of the match saw UD take control of the tempo in the game, finding the first goal at 28:08 from Kaelyn Kanable, assisted by Claire Husnick. After finding the first goal, the Spartans did not let up and increased the lead to 2-0 before halftime on a goal from Virginia Speltz, assisted by Alyssa Tranchita just four minutes later. UD out shot the Cougars 19-1 in the first 45 minutes on the pitch.
After assisting on a first-half goal, Tranchita found her own goal at 62:57 with the assist from Amanda Pisciotta to put the team up 3-0. Just under 10 minutes after the third goal of the game, Caira Zupo scored the team's fourth goal of the game at 72:23 with the assist from Tranchita. It was another dominate half for the Spartans with 16 shots to the Cougars' 6; UD ended the game with 35 shots and UD's defense held Concordia to just seven shots. UD finished the afternoon with 24 players seeing action in the game and ended with 10 corner kicks (six in first half and four in the second half.)
Alyssa Tranchita led the Spartans with two assists and a goal after taking seven shots. Three other Spartans scored, Virginia Speltz, Kaelyn Kanable and Caira Zupo. Claire Husnick and Amanda Pisciotta each had one assist. Spetlz led the Spartans with six shots on goal trailed by Tranchita's five shots on goal. In the net, Samantha Jurgens played for the first 75 minutes of the game, making four saves before Karissa Cruz subbed into the game and made two saves of her own. Twenty-four players saw the field for UD with 14 finishing with a shot on Friday evening in a shutout win.
