Women's Soccer Earn 2-0 Shutout Over Dutch to Open A-R-C

PELLA, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's soccer team opened American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) action on Saturday with a trip to Central College that ended in a 2-0 shutout in favor of the Spartans to start the conference season 1-0.

Throughout the 90 minutes on the pitch the Spartans were only able to get three shots on goal, but were able to connect on two of them. Junior forward Olivia Roth scored her first goal of the season in the 35th minute to give the Spartans the 1-0 advantage. The Spartans would add on again in the second half as freshman defender Sarah Thompson scored her second goal of the season in the 78th minute to give the Spartans a 2-0 win.

The Dutch also got three shots on goal opportunities, but Spartans' goalie Karissa Cruz saved all three Dutch chances in her 90 minutes in net. Both teams were equal in corner kick opportunities with six.

The Spartans now move to 3-0-5 on the season and open conference play at 1-0.
