#19 Spartans Stunned in Edgewood Road Loss

MADISON, Wis. - The University of Dubuque women's volleyball team earned the #19 ranking on the latest AVCA Coaches Poll, and then lost for the first time this season 3-0 (26-24, 25-23, 26-24) to the Edgewood Eagles on Tuesday.

The first set was evenly split, with both teams tied nine different times and the lead changing hands five times. The Eagles won two straight points with the set knotted up at 24 to take a 1-0 lead in the match. The Spartans jumped out to a 11-5 lead early in the second set, but the Eagles clawed back slowly and took a 20-19 lead they wouldn't relinquish. In the third set, both squads traded leads again. The Spartans survived two match points and forced a 24-24 tie thanks to a kill by Payton Uptagraft. Despite this, the Eagles took the next two points to clinch a 3-0 victory.

Ashley Glennon, this week's A-R-C volleyball offensive player of the week, led the Spartans with 11 kills and was second on the team with 17 digs. Delainey Winkel, Caitlin Jensen, and Halee Clare all finished with eight kills in the upset loss. Jensen finished with a .438 hitting percentage and added two blocking assists. Taylor Bechen led UD with 18 digs. Setters Alexis Kammerer and Ashlyn McGinnis lsplit duties with 19 and 18 assists respectively.

UD's win streak was stopped at 12 by the Eagles. The #19 Spartans will return to action on Friday, September 19 at the St. Olaf/Carleton Invitational in a ranked match-up against #24 Gustavus Adolphus College at 7:00 p.m. After a quick turnaround Friday night, the Spartans will battle Macalester College and Carleton College on Saturday, September 20 at 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
