#19 Volleyball Lose to #24 Gustavus Adolphus at St. Olaf/Carleton Invitational

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The #19 ranked University of Dubuque women's volleyball team fell in straight sets (25-23, 25-23, 25-10) to #24 Gustavus Adolphus College on Friday, the first day of the St. Olaf/Carleton Invitational. Alexis Kammerer reached a career milestone in the match, tallying her 1500th assist as a Spartan.

The first set was evenly matched between the two programs, with the first set seeing eight ties between the Spartans and the Golden Gusties. Gustavus took the final two points of the set to take a 25-23 victory. The second set was just as exciting as the first, with both teams trading points. The Spartans took six of seven points to take a 23-21 lead late, but the Golden Gusties clawed back for another 25-23 set victory. Gustavus made an eight-point run early in the third set, winning 25-10 in decisive fashion and clinching the sweep.

Delainey Winkel led the Spartans with eight kills and two service aces on the evening. Alexis Kammerer led the Spartans with 14 assists on the evening in addition to reaching a career milestone. Taylor Bechen led the Spartans with 13 digs for the Spartans.

The loss drops the Spartans to 12-2 on the season, and they will be back in action Saturday afternoon with a 2:00 p.m. against Macalester College and a 4:00 p.m. match against Carleton College. Carleton lost a five-set match against the University of Minnesota-Morris in their Friday night contest.
