DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's soccer team forced a 2-2 draw with the UW-Stevens Point Pointers on Tuesday night after two second half Spartans' goals scored by
Sarah Thompson and
Alyssa Tranchita.
The Spartans were able to limit the Pointers offensive opportunities to just three shots in the opening 45 minutes, but the Pointers would find the back of the net in the 21st minute. The Pointers' goal was the lone score of the half as the Spartans trailed at the break.
The Spartans would make some adjustments in the second half, forcing more balls into the attacking zone. The Spartans got 14 shots off in the final half as
Sarah Thompson got the equalizer in the 65th minute off a corner kick from
Claire Husnick to even the score.Â
The Pointers would secure the lead once again in the 70th minute, but
Alyssa Tranchita, the leading goal scorer for the Spartans would take the ball herself and find the left side of the net to even the score once again, this time at 2-all.Â
The Spartans finished with 18 total shots, including 10 shots on goal. The Spartans had five corner kick opportunities compared to just one for the Pointers.Â
Samantha Jurgens got her first start in goal of the season and was able to recorded four saves in a full 90 minutes in goal.
The Spartans move to 2-0-4 this season.
