DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's volleyball team glided past the Cardinals of Saint Mary's University (MN) on Saturday, winning in straight sets 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-17).
The Spartans started slowly, allowing the Cardinals to capture momentum early in the first set. Three consecutive blocks by
Megan Cooley enabled the Spartans to run away with a 25-19 first set victory. The Cardinals hung around early in the second set before a six-point run allowed the Spartans to pull away for good, winning the second set 25-13. The Spartans jumped out to an early lead in the third set and held the Cardinals at bay to secure the 3-0 sweep.
Delainey Winkel finished the match with nine kills and eleven digs, both leading the Spartans. Cooley finished with three solo blocks and a block assist.
Chloe Reiser tallied five kills of her own along with two service aces. Setters
Alexis Kammerer and
Ashlyn McGinnis led the Spartans with 15 assists each.
The #23 Spartans improve to 12-0 on the season and look to extend their perfect season on Tuesday, September 16 at 7:00 p.m. at Edgewood University. The Eagles are 4-3 on the season with a victory over A-R-C foe Wartburg College and two losses to nationally ranked opponents.
