CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's golf team made a run on the leader on Sunday, but secured a second place finish after a two day total of 607 (304-303), just eight strokes out of a top finish. The top two teams distanced themselves to the 10-team field (69 linksters) by more than 20 strokes as the weekend wrapped up.
The Spartans were led by
Gracie Russell who finished with rounds of 74-76 to place fifth overall.
Leah Balsbaugh trailed by a stroke after rounds of 76-75 to tie for sixth.
Payton Morton was a consistent 76-76 on both days to finish tied for eighth overall.
Drew Hoffer tied for 10th after rounds of 78-77.
Kaycee Newman playing as an individual tied for 12th with a 78-78.
Jenna Albanese played as an individual and tied teammate
Megan Stephan for 14th with scores of 158.
Olivia Hines tied for 19th with a 160.
Elizabeth Tucker placed 48th with a two-day total of 172.
"It was a good start to the fall season and saw a lot of positive things out of this team," stated head coach
Dustin Bierman. "We made a run at Mt. Mercy today and got as close as one stroke with about six holes to play, but credit to them they played great down the stretch. We had some good rounds out of our younger players and proud of the fight and attitude on both days. We have a few things to clean up this coming week to get ready for our trip up to the Wartburg College Invite next weekend against a quality field."
