Men's Lacrosse Defeats Benedictine 12-10, Advances to NACC Semifinals

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The No. 2 seed University of Dubuque men's lacrosse team defeated the No. 7 seed Benedictine University Eagles 12-10 on Saturday night at Oyen Field to advance to the NACC Semifinals next Wednesday.

It was a constant back and forth battle all night between the Spartans and eagles as both teams never led by more than two goals and a majority of the game was within a goal. The Eagles led 3-2 after the first 15 minutes as the Spartans got goals from the duo of Sam Todd and Aidan Culligan.

The Eagles biggest lead was 4-2 in the early stages of the second quarter, but back-to-back man-up goals by the Spartans even the game at four apiece. The Spartans led regained the lead late in the second, but two unanswered goals, including one at the buzzer by the Eagles gave them the 7-6 lead at the half.

Andrew Beaudoin tied the game to start the third quarter and two more Todd goals would help erase the one goal deficit to head into the final 15 minutes all tied at 9-9. The Eagles scored the first goal of the fourth quarter, but that would be all the rest of the way. The Spartans scored the next three goals and got their first multi-goal lead with 3:42 left to seal the win and keep their season alive.

Todd ended with a game-high seven points, while Culligan finished with five points and Giovanni Silva ended with three points. Parker Hahne and Eric Brostek had two caused turnovers each. Hahne had a crucial caused turnover that led to the Spartans' 12th goal of the game that sealed the game.

Nolan Nagy picked up his 10th win of the season after a 10 save night in goal for the Spartans.
