DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque softball team collected a sweep of the Buena Vista University Beavers on Easter Weekend on the Spartans Senior Day. UD won the opener 5-1 and ended the second game after five innings by a score of 8-0. The sweep doubled the Spartans overall wins from a year ago for first year head coach
Kristen Duross.
UD scored five runs off nine hits in the opener and held the visiting Beavers to one run off three hits and they committed three errors. UD left seven runners on base and BVU stranded four in the loss.
Megan Leick led the offense with a pair of RBI's after going 2-4 at the plate with the games lone triple. Senior
Grace Stevenson ended her home career with a 2-4 at the plate and scored runs on both hits.
Lauren Jacobs was 2-2 and finished with an RBI and a run scored.Â
Super Senior
Ally Gullette earned the victory on the mound after facing 26 batters and allowing just one earned run to improve to 9-6 overall.
In the second of the doubleheader, UD held the Beavers to just three hits while scoring eight runs off 10 hits in five innings. The two teams would each leave four runners on base. The game was 1-0 in favor of the Spartans through four innings, then UD found their bats and finished with seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to end it early.
Kaitlyn Powell ended the game with a double which scored the winning eighth run, she finished 3-4 with the game winning RBI.Â
Lauren Jacobs went 1-2 with a pair of RBI's,
Madison Taeger was 1-1 with also two RBI's.
Ciaran Rigby collected her eighth win of the year after facing 19 batters with four strikeouts and no earned runs in her shutout.
UD (20-14 overall, 7-7 in A-R-C) will take next week off for the campus final exams before facing a doubleheader non-conference schedule at Augustana College Vikings (22-6 overall) at Carver Field in Rock Island, Ill. on April 28 beginning at 4:00 p.m. The Spartans will wrap up their regular season at the #19 Central College Dutch (20-6 overall, (5-3 in A-R-C) in Pella, Iowa on May 3 beginning at 1:00 p.m.
