Men's Lacrosse Wins Fifth Straight, Defeats Illinois Tech on Senior Day

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque celebrated senior day for 13 student-athletes in winning fashion with a 13-8 win over the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks on Saturday afternoon at Oyen Field to win their fifth straight game and move to 8-2 in conference play.

After a quick three goal deficit in the first five minutes of the game, the Spartans responded with four unanswered goals to take a 4-3 lead and never look back. The Spartans would go on a 11-1 scoring run after they trailed by three goals to take an 11-4 lead into the final quarter.

The Spartans defense settled in after the initial goals by the Scarlet Hawks and would not allow a goal for 21:56 of game time. Illinois Tech cut the Spartans lead by two in the fourth, but the big lead by the Spartans held strong, winning by a five goal margin.

All six Spartans who recorded multiple points today were seniors who were recognized before the game. Sam Todd recorded a game-high six points, while Aidan Culligan and Giovanni Silva added four points each. Aiden Ennett had three goals and the duo of Aydan Rathsabandith and Peter Schiess each added a goal and an assist.

Ethan Smith and Hayden Polakowski each caused two turnovers on the defensive end of the field. Nolan Nagy picked up win number eight on the season after a 12 save effort in goal.

The Spartans extend their winning streak to five and improve to 9-6 overall and 8-2 in conference play. With the win the Spartans secured a first-round home game in next Saturday's first round of the NACC men's lacrosse tournament.
