DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's lacrosse team opened up their first ever Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game on Saturday at Oyen Field with a convincing 18-0 shutout of the Marian University Sabres.
It was all Spartans from the opening faceoff as the Spartans rallied off eight goals in the first, followed by six goals in the second for a commanding 14-0 lead at the half. The second half would feature a mix of different Spartans on the field as they would tack on four more goals in the final half. The Spartans shutout their opponent for the first time since April 2, 2022 against North Central University (MN).
Giovanni Silva make quick work in the opening half finishing with nine points (seven goals, two assists).
Sam Todd finished with five points, while
Aidan Culligan added a pair of goals and assists for four points. Todd scored his 100th career goal in the first quarter, becoming just the fourth Spartan to reach this milestone.
Peter Schiess did his offensive damage in the second half with three points off a pair of goals and an assist. The trio of
Nolan Dimitri,
Tommy Shelby, and
Cambell Smith each had two points today in the win.
The Spartans were really good on faceoffs, going 18-22 with
John Lewis leading the way with nine faceoff wins.
Nolan Nagy recorded his first win of the season and finished with three saves.
Caleb Cuff played nearly all of the second half and recorded three saves as well.
The Spartans improve to 2-4 overall and 1-0 in NACC play.
