DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque women's hockey team secured a 3-1 victory over Lawrence University in the second and final game of the weekend series.

The Spartans came out strong scoring just over a minute and a half into the game as Alexandria Simmons found the back of the net with assists from Aleah Giddings and Zoe Cupples, giving UD an early 1-0 lead. The rest of the first period remained scoreless as both teams battled defensively.

Just past the halfway mark in the second period, Lawrence evened the score at 1-1 with a goal at 11:24. The teams entered the third period locked in a tie.

UD reclaimed the lead at 5:23 in the third when Madilynn Schiile buried a goal off a pass from Zoe Cupples, putting the Spartans up 2-1. The defense held strong, keeping the Vikings off the scoreboard in the final period as UD was able to add an insurance goal late in the game as Zoe Cupples found the back of the net as Aleah Giddings and Madilynn Schiile recorded the assists.

Savannah Wuitschick had another strong game in goal, making 20 saves. Arwen Sims anchored the defense with three blocked shots. Zoe Cupples led the offensive effort with three points (one goal, two assists), while Aleah Giddings and Madilynn Schiile each tallied two points.
